We're pretty easy-going with campsites but we won't return here. The only up-side to all this is that, since it didn't appeal to remain in the campsite all day (reading, cooking, playing games, having a drink), we went out each day to explore nearby places (Taylor's Arm, Nambucca, Macksville, Scott's Head, Bowraville, Bellingen). We discovered some really nice places, ate at some great locations and discovered what appears to be a really nice place to camp: Bellingen Showgrounds. We were put off previously by the thought of camping in a showground. But, when we visited, it was great: Powered/unpowered sites, clean facilities, green grass, massive shade trees, picnic tables and undercover areas, etc.

Peaceful, away from noise of traffic, builds many happy memories.

Firepits, flushing bore water toilets, drinking water, picnic tables, pet friendly. $12 double, $10 single. Fishing, kayaks, boat ramp

The site pulled in an unusually large number of rough-necks: Heavy drinking, partying into the night, stereos playing, blokes getting around in underwear prior to their showers with no consideration to women in the campsite . . .

Basic camping in a beautiful and cheap place. Toilet block with bore water and an outside shower. Fire pits and wood supplied. Right on the river.

We stayed for seven days (a day shorter than planned). The toilets/dump point STANK! We camped some 60 metres away and, when the wind blew from a certain direction, you knew it!

Dogs are everywhere. For pet owners, this is a positive. Not for us. To be fair, we knew it was a pet-friendly site, but we didn't expect quite that many pets! Not all were restrained as required in the rules. So they could be seen doing their thing up against trees and out on the grass.

The wind was blowing. I'm not sure if it was happening just when we were there or if this is a regular corridor for wind. But it blew for significant parts of seven days.

Gumma Campsite is right on a tidal river. From the number of boats and rods around the place, it's evidently very popular with fishermen. The caretakers are friendly. Tank water is available along with flushing toilets and a cold, outdoor shower. Prices are very good.
